Crickets are found abundantly in Northwestern Pennsylvania, and Mosquito Assassin Pest control will help you Identify, Control and Eradicate them.

  • Identification

In general, crickets are characterized by their large hind legs, which allow them to jump great distances. House crickets are tan to light brown in color and less than an inch long. Field crickets are dark brown with lighter wings. They are generally 1/2 to more than an inch long as adults. The camel cricket is medium brown and up to 1 1/4 inch long and has a humpbacked shape, which makes it easily distinguished from the others.

  • Biology

Crickets naturally occur in the landscape and prefer moist soils, mulch, vegetation, rocks, and wood, under which they hide. They tend to be nocturnal, and males chirp to attract females. Young crickets are small versions of the adults and have no wings. Crickets are commonly driven indoors in the fall as cold weather sets in.

  • Damage

People may be bothered by the sound of a cricket chirping inside the home. All 3 species, but especially the house cricket, can damage fabrics. They will eat fabrics soiled with food or perspiration, leaving large holes in wool, cotton, silk, and synthetics. Outside, they feed on plants and dead insects.
